At the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo , competitions in sport climbing are to be held for the first time in history . The venue will be the Aomi Urban Sports Park in Tokyo Bay in the Aomi district of Kōtō , Tokyo, built on an artificial island .

An individual competition for men and women is to take place from August 3 to 6, 2021. This is to be carried out as an Olympic combination in two rounds, consisting of speed climbing , bouldering and difficulty climbing . After the qualifying round, six athletes reach the final round. 20 athletes of each gender are allowed to take part, with a maximum of two from one nation.
