This article describes how to qualify for the sport climbing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics . There are a total of 40 quota places, 20 per gender. Each nation may have a maximum of two athletes per gender.

At the 2019 World Climbing Championships , the seven best athletes of each gender will receive a quota place. Seven more quota places per gender will be awarded at the Olympic qualifying competition in Toulouse from November 28 to December 1, 2019. In addition, the five continental champions of each gender qualify directly for Tokyo. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the championships of Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania have been postponed. In addition, the Japanese delegation, as the host nation, receives one quota place per competition. In addition, a quota place is awarded for both competitions through a wildcard.
