Asian Games 2018
The quota place due to the Asian association should be played at a continental qualifying tournament from February 12 to 16, 2020. However, due to the coronavirus epidemic , this was canceled and the Fédération Internationale de Natation decided to award the starting place to the winner of the 2018 Asian Games . Thus Kazakhstan will take part in the men's tournament in Tokyo.
European Championship 2020
At the 2020 European Championship in Hungary, 16 nations played for a quota place that was due to the winner of the tournament. This was secured by Hungary, who defeated Spain in the final 14:13 (1: 3, 3: 0, 2: 2, 3: 4, 5: 4) after five-meter shooting. The five participants from Europe in the Olympic qualification tournament in Rotterdam are: Montenegro, Croatia, Greece, Russia and hosts Netherlands (set). Meanwhile, Germany and Georgia hope for replacement places for teams from Africa (one place) and Oceania (1st place Australia, 1 place free), which would each have a starting place in Rotterdam, but probably Africa as well as Oceania (presumably for cost and Performance reasons) want to do without a start in Tokyo.
