For the 2020 Olympic hockey tournaments, 12 teams were able to qualify for both men and women. Each team may have a maximum of 16 players.

Asian Games 2018

The Asian representative was determined during the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta , Indonesia . The Japanese national team won the tournament, since they are already qualified as the host nation, there were seven instead of six playoff games.
