The men's European field hockey championship 2019 was the 17th edition of the men 's European field hockey championship . It took place from August 16 to 24 in Antwerp , Belgium together with the European Women's Championship. The defending champions were the Netherlands . The venue was the Wilrijkse Plein sports center. Belgium won the tournament for the first time, beating Spain 5-0 . The Netherlands were able to secure third place with a 4-0 win against Germany .

The six best nations from the previous European Championship and the two best nations from the "B-Pool" were eligible to participate.

mode
The preliminary round was played in two groups of four teams in an everyone-against-everyone format. The first two of each group qualified for the semi-finals. As usual in international hockey, a game for third place was played. The last two of the two groups formed group C and played for participation in the following European championship. The teams took the result against the nation from their own group. The last two out of the group of four were relegated to the B pool and the first two were allowed to take part in the next European championship.
