The 2019 women's European field hockey championship was the 14th edition of the women 's European field hockey championship . It took place from August 17 to 25, 2019 in Antwerp , Belgium together with the European Men's Championship. The venue was the Wilrijkse Plein sports center. The defending champions were the Netherlands , who successfully defended their title with a 2-0 win against Germany . In the game for third place, Spain prevailed 3: 2 (1: 1) in the penalty shootout against England .

mode
The preliminary round was played in two groups of four teams each in the everyone-against-everyone format. The first two of each group qualified for the semi-finals. As usual in international hockey, a game for third place was played. The last two of the two groups formed group C and played for participation in the following European championship. The teams took the result against the nation from their own group. The last two out of the group of four were relegated to the B pool and the first two were allowed to take part in the next European championship.
