The 11th Men's Field Hockey European Championship 2007 was held in Manchester from August 18 to 26 , where, after 2003 in Barcelona, the European Championships for women and men were held together for the second time.
Eight national teams competed against each other, first in two groups and then in placement games. In addition to the Netherlands and Spain , Belgium was also able to secure a ticket for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing as third place . Germany - beaten by Belgium in the game for 3rd place - only had the option of a qualifying tournament .
The defending champion was the team from Spain, which won the final 4-2 against the Netherlands at the 10th European Championship 2005 in Leipzig. In 2007 the Netherlands could return the favor; this time they defeated Spain 3-2 in the final.
venue
The Belle Vue Regional Hockey Center with its two artificial turf hockey fields was the venue for the hockey competitions at the Commonwealth Games back in 2002 . At the 2007 European Championship, 4,000 seats were available. The facility is located around five kilometers southwest of Manchester city center and is right next to the Belle Vue Stadium, a dog racing track that has been in operation since 1927 .
qualification
The first six nations of the last European Championship 2005 in Leipzig (Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France and England), as well as the two best-placed countries of the EuroHockey Nations Trophy 2005 in Rome (Ireland and the Czech Republic) were eligible to participate.
