A soccer tournament was also held at the 1906 Olympic interludes . Four teams, some of them mixed, took part in this draw.

Denmark, which was considered the strongest continental European country at the time, but did not yet have a national team , sent a Copenhagen city selection, which had nothing to do with the Dansk Boldspil Union , but was a private initiative. For Greece, the team from Ethnikos GS Athênai took part, which was reinforced by a player from Panellinios GS Athênai . Two teams from the Ottoman Empire took part. A team from Thessaloniki , which consisted entirely of players from the local club Omilos Filomuson Thessaloníké (the predecessor club of Iraklis Thessaloniki ) and a team that went under the name Smyrna and consisted of six French, five English and one Armenian.

All games were played in the Podilatodromio , which is where the Karaiskakis Stadium stands today .

The tournament was clearly dominated by the Danish team, which outclassed their opponents. In the final, the Northern Europeans were already leading 9-0 at halftime, after which the Athens team refused to continue the game. Denmark was then declared the winner. The tournament management decided that the three "Greek" teams should play for second place. The Athenians also refused to do this, as they had already clearly defeated Thessaloniki in the semi-finals and were disqualified and placed in last place. The two losers in the semi-finals played for second place. This pairing between Smyrna and Thessaloniki won the international selection of Smyrna, whose offensive series consisted of the five English Whittal brothers, 3-0.
