Omer Dzemali

Omer Dzemali (born July 4, 1970 in Tetovo , Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a Macedonian cardiac surgeon and chief physician at the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at Triemli City Hospital . Since January 2016 he has also been a senior physician at the University Hospital Zurich in the cardiac surgery department.

Life

Dzemali began studying medicine at the University of Sarajevo in 1990 , but had to flee in 1992 because of the Bosnian War . He fled to Germany , where he received a student visa and thus had a year to enroll at a university. After 32 applications, shortly before the deadline, he was admitted to Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , where he had to study again from the beginning. He graduated in 2000 and received his doctorate magna cum laude in February of the same year . He then completed an internship in the Department of Thoracic, Cardiac and Thoracic Vascular Surgery at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he was an assistant doctor until the end of 2006 , then a specialist in cardiac surgery and senior physician at the same location. In October 2009 Dzemali completed his habilitation and at the end of the same year became deputy chief physician or head physician at the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at Triemli City Hospital in Zurich.

He helped establish a University Clinic for Cardiac Surgery in Skopje , becoming an associate professor there in 2014 and a full professor in 2016 . In January 2016 he also became deputy chief physician within the framework of the Alliance for Cardiac Surgery Zurich and since September 2018 he has been the chief physician at Triemli Hospital as well as senior physician in the department for cardiac surgery at the University Hospital Zurich.

Dzemali is married, has two children and lives in the canton of Aargau .
