Uncle President is a 100-minute comic opera by Friedrich Cerha based on a libretto by Peter Wolf, in a prelude, an act and an epilogue .

Emergence

The stage play One, Two, Three by Ferenc Molnár served as a template for the libretto . The opera was created as a co-production with the Vienna Volksoper after a composition commission from the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz . The production was supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation . The Austrian theater director and director Josef Ernst Köpplinger had been working with Cerha on this project since 2009 and took it with him from Klagenfurt to Munich after he switched to the Theater am Gärtnerplatz .

premiere

The premiere took place on June 1, 2013 in the Prinzregententheater in Munich due to renovation work on the theater on Gärtnerplatz .

In October 2014 the piece was also performed at the cooperating Volksoper Vienna.
