The broadcast Operación Triunfo 2018: Gala OT a Eurovisión took place on January 20, 2019 and was the Spanish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Israel , Tel Aviv . It was a special gala broadcast by the Spanish talent show Operación Triunfo .
It was won by the singer Miki with his song La venda , which was written by Adrià Salas.
format
concept
Unlike in the previous year , all 16 participants in the casting show were able to take part in the Eurovision gala in 2019. They could then perform again as solo artists, duos or groups. Ten contributions then took part in the broadcast in January 2019. As in the previous year, the winner was decided 100% by televoting.
jury
On January 11, 2019, it was announced that there was also a four-person jury for the show. However, she only criticized the appearances and therefore had no voting rights. The jury consisted of the following people:
- Manuel Martos
- Pastora Soler (Spanish representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 )
- Tony Aguilar (Spanish Eurovision Commentator)
- Doron Medalie (composer of the 2018 winner Toy )
Choice of contribution
From November 1, 2018 to November 15, 2018, contributions could be submitted to RTVE . There was the rule that the lyrics of the songs had to be sung 100% in Spanish . It was also possible to specify which of the 16 participants should sing the song. However, this information is not binding. On November 16, 2018, RTVE announced that the station had received a total of 953 songs, which is 700 more than in the previous year. A five-person committee, consisting of a member of the Spanish OGAE Fan Club, a member of the AEV Fan Club, a member of RTVE and two members of the Spanish music industry, will now select ten songs that will be made available for online voting.
In addition to the public tender, RTVE has also commissioned composers from the production company of the casting show Gestmusic to submit songs for the preliminary round. On November 16, 2018 it was announced that over 100 songs had been submitted. A five-person committee, consisting of two people from RTVE management, one person from RTVE and two teachers from Operación Triunfo's boarding academy , will now select 10 songs for online voting.
The total of 20 selected songs are then assigned to the 16 participants in solo, duet or group form. After the assignment, the participants will have their songs produced. The songs produced are then uploaded to the RTVE official website. The Spanish viewers then have two weeks to choose their favorites. The three songs with the most votes will be given a direct starting place in the Eurovision preliminary decision. A five-person committee, consisting of two people from RTVE management, one person from RTVE and two teachers from Operación Triunfo's boarding academy , could then select up to seven further participants for the preliminary decision.
Attendees
On December 11, 2018, RTVE published the titles of the 17 participating songs. Of the 18 participants in the Operación Triunfo 2018, only 13 will take part in the program, as Miki, Sabela and Carlos Right will each receive two songs and some participants will perform again in duets. The participants Dave, Africa, Alfonso, Rodrigo and Luis, however, received no song.
Shortlist
From this selection, the audience could vote from December 20, 2018 to January 2, 2019 which three songs would directly reach the preliminary decision.
On January 3rd, the results of the internet vote were announced, with over 190,000 votes received. The first three songs went straight to the Eurovision Gala. On January 4th, the remaining seven songs were announced, which were selected regardless of the results of the internet voting. So 9 participants and 10 contributions are in the preliminary round, as two performers perform a duet who also sing a song.
