action

A few months after the North Korean armed forces overran most of South Korea , a United States-led UN commando was sent to Korea in 1950 to help the fighting South Koreans. General Douglas MacArthur drafts a plan to attack the port city of Incheon from behind enemy lines. The risky strategy is rejected by the leaders of the other military forces . MacArthur is forced to devise a secret operation to gather vital information from the occupied Incheon.

The linchpin of this top-secret operation is Captain Jang Hak-soo of the South Korean naval secret service. Seven members of the intelligence operation disguise themselves as North Korean inspection units and infiltrate the North Korean Army's command center in Incheon, which is run by Commander Lim Gye-jin, a protégé of North Korean leader Kim Il-sung . Incheon Harbor is notorious for its fast currents and large tides. Their main objective is to identify the positions of North Korean defenses and the tactical features of the port, and to secure a lighthouse that is vital to the success of the landing.

Lim is suspicious of Jang's "inspection" and tries to complicate his comrade's investigation. He orders his staff to closely monitor the newcomers. U.S. command sends MacArthur's orders to obtain navigational maps showing the positions of the sea mines in the port and prepare a strategy to assist coalition forces in landing an amphibious assault in a narrow two-hour window between the tides. When contacts within the South Korean military intelligence unit KLO ( Korean Liaison Office ) warn Jang that the time is running out for the successful completion of the mission, he takes his group to the limit. Meanwhile prepares MacArthur in Tokyo , the Battle of Inchon prior to an invasion force of 75,000 UN troops and over 200 warships, which are scheduled to depart from the Korean Peninsula as soon as possible.

reception

The film received mostly negative reviews. Operation Chromite was particularly blamed for the rampant patriotism in the film . Yonhap's Shim Sun-ah writes of a "sloppy spy thriller". Operation Chromite is entertaining, but the characters are all two-dimensional. The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw considers Liam Neeson's portrayal to be ridiculous. With dark sunglasses and a pipe , his scenes often end with gloomy looks.

Hollywood Reporter's Justin Lowe, on the other hand, has positive reviews of the film. Director Lee coordinated the dramatic events in an admirable way.
