The hornet ragwur ( Ophrys crabronifera ), also called high ragwurz , is a species of the genus Ragwurzen ( Ophrys ) and thus of the orchid family. It blooms from March to April.
features
This herbaceous perennial plant has two egg-shaped to spherical tubers and reaches heights of between 20 and 60 cm. One or two scale leaves grow at the base of the stem . Four to six foliage leaves are grouped together in a base rosette and one or two sheathed leaves can be found further up on the stem. The elongated inflorescence consists of three to seven, rarely twelve flowers , which are often surmounted by the lower bracts. The ovate-lanceolate sepals appear mostly whitish to pink, rarely also yellowish-green. The broad, dirty, hairy petals are pink to red, rarely greenish in color. The slightly humped lip appears dark reddish-brown with a lighter, mostly yellow-colored basal field. The entire edge zone of the lip is hairy thick and long. The gray-brown mark appears either in the form of two isolated or connected points. The basal calluses are brownish to blackish in color.

Location and distribution
This orchid is usually found near the coast in sparse pine forests , garrigues and on poor grasslands with moderately dry to moist, alkaline soils up to a height of 600 meters above sea level. The distribution area extends over the central Mediterranean area . In Italy this species is found along the west coast from the province of Livorno to Salerno . In Corsica you have to look around Bastia and Bonifacio .
