Opin ( German  Open ) is a village in the urban-and-rural community Orneta ( Wormditt ) in the powiat Lidzbark Warmiński ( Heilsberg ) in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

Geographical location

Opin is located in northeastern Poland in the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship, five kilometers east of Orneta, the capital of the municipality .

history

Open was founded in 1333 by the Warmian bailiff Henryk von Luter, which was officially confirmed in 1345 by the Bishop of Warmia , Hermann von Prague , with a charter. Until the Second Peace of Thorn in 1466, Open belonged to Prussia. From 1466 to 1772 the village belonged to Poland-Lithuania . After the first partition of Poland in 1772, the place came back under Prussian rule and from 1818 belonged to the Heilsberg district and from 1819 to the Braunsberg district in East Prussia . In 1900, 679 people lived in Opin. After the occupation by the Red Army in 1945, Open and the southern half of East Prussia were placed under Polish administration. The place received the Polish form of the name Opin , the native German population was expelled and Polish immigrants replaced them.

From 1975 to 1998 Opin was part of the Elbląg Voivodeship . Since 1998 the village has belonged to the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship with the seat of government in Olsztyn ( Allenstein ).

A chapel is mentioned in the charter in which the pastor of Wormditt held services. Towards the end of the 14th century a church was built, which was given to Bishop Heinrich III on October 20, 1400 . Sorbom was consecrated. The church burned down in the 18th century, but was rebuilt within two years. In 1830 a church tower was added and the Gothic style building became a neo-Gothic structure.
