The Or ( Russian Орь ; Kazakh Ор ) is a left tributary of the Urals in the Kazakh region of Aqtöbe and the Russian Oblast of Orenburg .

The Or arises at the confluence of the Shili and Terisbutak rivers on the western slopes of the Mugodjar Mountains in western Kazakhstan. The river flows in a northerly direction into the Orenburg Oblast and finally flows into the Urals after 332 km near Orsk . The Or drains an area of ​​18,600 km². It is mainly fed by the snowmelt . 61 km above the mouth, the mean discharge is 21.3 m³ / s. The Or regularly floods between April and mid-May . At the end of October / beginning of November the Or freezes. At the end of March / beginning of April the Or is ice-free again. The water of the Or is used for irrigation and water supply .
