Order of the Iron Trefoil

The Order of the Iron Trefoil ( Croatian Vojnički red željeznog trolista ) was a state award of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH). The Order of Merit was donated on December 27, 1941 by the leader Ante Pavelić . As the highest military medal in the country, it was awarded to officers , non-commissioned officers and men in the armed forces. An award to foreigners was possible as long as the award criteria were met.

Order classes

The order consists of four classes and could also be awarded with oak leaves for exceptional merits .

The first and second class holders had the right to use the title vitez ( knight ) in their names.

Order decoration

Religious character is a black iron -made Kroatisches trefoil (also known as cross Kroatisches) having a silver edge. On the arms of the cross there are vertical or horizontal twisted ornaments . In the medallion the enamelled coat of arms of Croatia and on it the blue enamelled letter U ( Ustascha ). When awarded with oak leaves, the medallion was enclosed by a green enamelled oak wreath open at the top.

On the back of the medal is the inscription ZA DOM SPREMNI ( Ready for the Fatherland) on the horizontal arms of the cross . In the upper cross arm the numbers 10.IV. and in the lower 1941 (date of establishment of the Independent State of Croatia ).

Carrying method

The first class was classified as a neck medal , the second class as a cross, the III. Class on the ribbon through the 2nd buttonhole of the uniform and the 4th class on a triangular ribbon on the left side of the chest.

The ribbon is red with wide white stripes.
