description

Ornithogalum multifolium grows with single or group-forming, subterranean, egg-shaped bulbs with a diameter of up to 4 centimeters. The green tissue is visible under the gray-brown, leathery onion scales. The up to ten, often spread out, linear-stemmed, glaucous leaves appear with the flowers. The leaf blade is 2 to 10 inches long and 2 to 3 millimeters wide.

The upright, up to 15-flowered inflorescence reaches a length of 4 to 15 centimeters. The flower stem is round. The boat-shaped, pointed bracts are 4 to 25 millimeters long. The flowers are on peduncles up to 2 centimeters long . The yellow to orange-colored flower envelope is star-shaped. The ovate-lanceolate to obovate tepals are 6 to 15 millimeters long and 4 millimeters wide. The linear-egg-shaped stamens are 3 to 7 millimeters long. The outer stamens are narrower. The 3 to 6 millimeters long ovary is broadly ovate. The upright stylus is 1 to 2 millimeters long.

The egg-shaped fruits have a length of up to 1 centimeter.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.
