The genus Orthopoxvirus ( OPXV ) has a linear double-stranded DNA (130 to 375Kb) and a size of 170 to 450 nm. Orthopoxvirus infections are also referred to as mammalian pox in animal disease legislation . Infections with orthopox viruses are among the notifiable animal diseases in Germany .
