Identifying features
The up to 2.5 cm high plants grow in dark green, usually palm-sized pads. The dry, moist protruding leaves are oval-lanceolate in shape, pointed, up to 2.7 mm long and rolled up to the tip at the edge. The leaf vein ends just before the tip. The rectangular, basal lamina cells are hyaline and thin-walled. The upper lamina cells, on the other hand, are rounded, 6 to 12 µm in diameter and usually have 2 small papillae. The cylindrical capsule is clearly raised above the leaves. It has 8 or 16 strips. The kalyptra is conical to bell-shaped and has some hairs. The 8 peristome teeth separate into 16 individual teeth as they age.
