Oscar Louis Forel (born September 20, 1891 in Zurich , † November 7, 1982 in Saint-Prex ; reformed ; resident in Morges , Lonay and Chigny ) was a Swiss psychiatrist .

Life

Oscar Forel was born on September 20, 1891 as the son of Auguste Forel in Zurich. After graduating from schools in Glarisegg and Solothurn , he studied medicine at the University of Lausanne . In the winter semester of 1920/21 he received his doctorate from the University of Bern , where he also trained as a psychiatrist.

As a result, he worked from 1925 to 1929 as chief physician at the La Métairie private clinic in Nyon . In addition, he taught from 1925 as a private lecturer in Geneva . In 1934 Forel founded the private clinic Les Rives de Prangins, in which important personalities from all over Europe were treated by him. Oscar Forel was a leading member of the Swiss Society for Psychiatry .

Forel actively supported refugees during World War II . He was also a co-founder of an aid organization for Greek children. Oscar Forel showed literary and artistic interest and was committed to promoting young musicians.

He was married to Leokadia, the daughter of the teacher Joseph Openik. His son Armand Forel was a doctor and politician.
