Oscar Hanke (born September 5, 1893 in Löwenberg in Silesia , † April 14, 1988 in Bad Arolsen ) was district administrator .

Life

Hanke grew up in Löwenberg and graduated from high school there in the spring of 1913 . After that he studied in the summer of 1913 at the University of Heidelberg and then at the University of Breslau law . During his time in Breslau he was active in the Corps Silesia . When the First World War broke out , Hanke volunteered for an artillery regiment, but was released after a short time for ametropia , whereupon he continued his studies. In 1916 he finished his studies with the first state examination in law. PhD during the traineeshiphe for Dr. iur. After passing the second state examination in law in 1920, he was head of the government in Gumbinnen for a year . From 1921 to 1945 he worked in his parents' factory in Löwenberg, Mühlen-Werken and Malzfabriken. In 1945 he fled with his family to Waldeck and in May 1945 was entrusted with the provisional management of the district administration in Korbach . In 1946 he was elected district administrator for the Waldeck district and held this office until his retirement in 1963.

Services

Hanke was particularly committed to building schools. He was able to achieve that district vocational schools were established in Korbach and Bad Wildungen and higher schools in Arolsen and Bad Wildungen. He also initiated the construction of a children's health home on Norderney and a youth hostel on the Edersee . In 1970 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his political activities . He was also a holder of the Freiherr vom Stein plaque .
