Oskar Hürsch

Oskar Hürsch (born June 4, 1892 in Chur , † July 26, 1979 in Winterthur ) was a Swiss theologian , politician and editor .

Life

Oskar Hürsch came in 1892 as the fifth son of Otto Hürsch and Ida nat. Müller to the world. Like his father, who had come to Chur from Aargau , Oskar Hürsch was a Reformed citizen of Zofingen .

Oskar Hürsch studied theology in Basel , Marburg , Berlin and Zurich between 1912 and 1917 . After his ordination in 1917 he worked as an educator in Jena . From 1918 to 1920 he served the parish of Töss-Veltheim-Wülflingen as a parish helper before becoming pastor in Oftringen in 1920 . His first marriage was Martha Huber in 1919. Through his father-in-law and namesake Oskar Huber , Hürsch came into contact with the Winterthurer country messenger . When Huber died in 1928, Hürsch joined the company as editor and from 1933 was editor-in-chief of the Winterthurer Landbote . He was to remain so until 1958. Between 1934 and 1946 he was for the Democratic Party (DP) in the Grand City Council and from 1936 to 1955 in the Zurich Cantonal Council. From 1939 to 1951 he chaired the DP of the Canton of Zurich. Oskar Hürsch supported the merger of the DP with the FDP of the Canton of Zurich and also the conversion of the Landbote from a party newspaper to a forum newspaper.

In 1976 he married Luisa Morath for the second time. Oskar Hürsch was a pioneer in nature and landscape protection. He fought against the Rheinau and Spöl power plants and was the first president of the Rhine union in 1960 . Both projects were implemented, however, the Spöl has been a residual water stream since 1970.
