Oskar Krancher

Paul Oskar Krancher (born April 11, 1857 in Schneeberg , † August 18, 1936 in Leipzig ) was a German secondary school teacher and entomologist .

Life

The son of the teacher and apidologist Traugott Ludwig Krancher attended the Realschule in Crimmitschau and the Realgymnasium in Zwickau . In 1876 he enrolled at the University of Leipzig for the subjects of chemistry and natural sciences. He was a student of Rudolf Leuckart . In 1881 he published his dissertation on the structure of the spiracles in insects . After completing his studies, he embarked on a teaching career. From 1895 until his retirement in 1922 he was a specialist teacher for natural history and biology at the 2nd municipal secondary school in Leipzig- Reudnitz , where he was appointed professor and senior director of studies during his tenure .

Became famous for Krancher by its scientific publications on beekeeping and the founder of the periodical Entomologisches yearbook, until his death, which he published since 1,891th

The University of Leipzig appointed him from 1910 to their Agricultural Institute as head of the beekeeping department. In this role he regularly gave apidological lectures.

In 1926 he was made an honorary member of the Entomological Society.

His grave is in the Südfriedhof in Leipzig.
