Oskar Kreibich (born July 17, 1916 in Seifersdorf , Northern Bohemia , † February 20, 1984 in Backnang ) was a German painter, graphic artist and sculptor. He also emerged as a writer relatively late.

Life

Oskar Kreibich attended the State Trade School for Mechanical Engineering in Reichenberg and the State Technical School for the Glass Industry in Haida . He began his artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague , where he was one of Heinrich Hönich's students for five years . He then spent a year in master class with Hans Meid at the Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin. He worked at the Villa Massimo in Rome from 1941 to 1942 . He was a Villa Romana laureate in 1942 , but was unable to travel to Florence. After a few years as a teacher, he was taken prisoner by the Soviets.

As a displaced person, Kreibich settled in Backnang in 1946. There he worked as a freelance artist. With strong ties to his homeland, he dedicated numerous graphics, paintings and sculptures to this city. He also portrayed Profiles der Zeit (1972) and Portraits from Our Time for the books . Here he did not impose any style on the different personalities, but was inspired by them for a wide variety of techniques. The most famous portraits include u. a. Ernst Jünger , Theodor Heuss , Hermann Hesse , Günter Grass , Max Brod and Max Born . Since the 1980s he also wrote short stories.
