Oskar Mertins

Oskar Theodor Mertins (born June 17, 1858 in Pillau , East Prussia , † May 14, 1909 in Breslau ) was a German teacher and prehistoric.

Life

Oskar Mertins passed the Abitur at the Tilsiter secondary school in 1878 . He studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and the Kaiser-Wilhelms-Universität Strasbourg . In Strasbourg he served as a one-year volunteer in the Prussian Army in 1880/81 . It was in 1885 with a thesis on Robert Greene from the Silesian Friedrich-Wilhelms University for Dr. phil. PhD . After a probationary year in Tilsit, he became a teacher in Breslau in 1884, first at a secondary school, from 1889 senior teacher and professor (1902) for newer languages ​​at the Heilig-Geist-Gymnasium (Breslau) . In 1888 he became a member of the Association for the Museum of Silesian Antiquities and in 1894 a member of the board. From 1902 to 1907 he represented Wilhelm Grempler as chairman.

Works

Mertins published his essays in Silesia’s Prehistory in pictures and writing , including: Traces of the diluvial people in Silesia and its neighboring regions (Volume 6, 1894, pp. 68–86); Depot finds from the Bronze Age in Silesia (1896); Copper and bronze finds in Silesia (1898, additions 1899); Two Bronze Age burial grounds (1899); Stone Age tools and weapons in Silesia (1904).
