Oskar Sakrausky (born May 5, 1952 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian Evangelical Lutheran clergyman . From 2000 to 2013 he was the military superintendent of Austria .

Life

Origin and education

Sakrausky was born as the son of the Protestant pastor (and later Bishop of the Evangelical Church AB ) Oskar Sakrausky and his wife Herta.

He attended elementary school in Bad Bleiberg and Trebesing , and passed his school leaving examination in Vienna in 1971 . After completing his military service , he began studying Protestant theology in Neuendettelsau in 1972 . From 1973 he studied at the University of Vienna , where he graduated in 1977 with a master's degree in theology .

Spiritual career

His teaching vicariate in St. Ruprecht near Villach began in September 1977. On July 8, 1979, he was ordained to the ministry in Fresach by his father, Bishop Oskar Sakrausky. On August 1, 1979, Oskar Sakrausky was appointed pastor of the Protestant parish in St. Ruprecht near Villach and was introduced to his office on September 23, 1979 by Superintendent Paul Pellar .

Military pastor and superintendent

With effect from April 1, 1980 he took over the activity of a military pastor in a secondary position, from June 1980 he was appointed as a military chaplain of the reserve in Villach .

In the summer of 2000, Sakrausky was elected military superintendent of Austria and began his service on October 31, 2000. The inauguration took place on January 12, 2001 in the Lutheran City Church in Vienna by Bishop Herwig Sturm and Regional Superintendent Peter Karner . As a military superintendent, Sakrausky was particularly committed to anchoring the Protestant military pastoral care in the armed forces and had the Protestant hymn book for soldiers published . During the Balkan Wars , he organized aid deliveries for the civilian population affected by the war. On November 30, 2013, Sakrausky retired as a military superintendent.

After his retirement, Sakrausky took over the Protestant community in Mürzzuschlag .

In addition to his work as a pastor, Sakrausky is committed to the "Association for the Care of Evangelical Faith Tradition in Carinthia" in Fresach , which runs the Evangelical Diocesan Museum there .
