Ossi Weiner

Oscher-Lev "Ossi" Weiner (born September 26, 1953 ) is a German entrepreneur , journalist and author specializing in computer chess .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1972, Ossi Weiner studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich and graduated with a diploma . Afterwards, from 1977 to 1981, he worked as a journalist and reported on the German Chess League . He also founded the "first Federal Republican chess school" in Munich. He succeeded in winning the later grandmaster Stefan Kindermann as a chess teacher. In 1980, together with his father, Oskar Weiner, he founded the "Münchner Schachverlag", which was the first publishing house in Germany to send chess computers. Shortly thereafter, he spent a few years at the Munich company Hegener + Glaser (H&G), first as a chess consultant, then as marketing and sales manager. These were the years in which H&G wrote chess history with the Mephisto chess computer, newly developed at the time by Thomas Nitsche and Elmar Henne , which culminated in 1984 with the Mephisto III version in winning the world championship for chess microcomputers .

On November 1st, 1983 Ossi Weiner founded the Hobby Computer Zentrale (HCC) in Munich's Barerstraße 32. His good relationships with H&G remained and he supported Nitsche and Henne in their development work.
