The Ostel Jugendhotel Bremervörde is a barrier-free integration hotel and environmental education center near the Vörder See in Bremervörde in the state of Lower Saxony , named after the river Oste . It is a non-profit enterprise of the city of Bremervörde, the Lebenshilfe Bremervörde / Zeven eV and the NABU Landesverband Niedersachsen.

history

A youth hostel has been on the site since 1968 - with its overnight accommodation, the focus of the environmental education offers of various institutions that have emerged around the Vörder See since the 1990s, such as the green classroom , the world of the senses , the nature and adventure trail of the NABU environmental pyramid , the house of the forest . Therefore, the closure of the youth hostel in 2002 by the German Youth Hostel Association due to dilapidation meant the end of educational offers lasting several days, especially in connection with school trips. In order to remedy this deficiency, a working group met at a table. The aim of integrated planning was to create a place for intergenerational encounters and educational work without barriers, which should also offer integrative workplaces.
In 2003 the city of Bremervörde, Lebenshilfe Bremervörde / Zeven eV and the NABU Landesverband Niedersachsen founded the Jugendhotel GmbH as shareholders , which took over the property in the same year. After extensive renovation and expansion to a gross floor area (GFA) of 1700 m², with a glass hall connecting the existing building with the extension, it was reopened in 2007 under the name Ostel Jugendhotel Bremervörde as a youth hotel and educational facility for the disabled and not disabled people of all ages. In the same year it was officially recognized as an integration company by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Social Affairs .

• NABU Landesverband Niedersachsen- Regionales Umweltbildungszentrum (RUZ) NABU Environment Pyramid: The NABU Environment Pyramid Bremervörde was originally created as a prototype of an unconventional low-energy house for the purpose of impressive demonstration of environmentally and resource-saving construction on the occasion of the 2nd Lower Saxony State Exhibition " Nature in Urban Development " in 1991 in Bremervörde Architects Lothar Tabery and is now used as an environmental education facility. Here you will find suggestions for saving energy at home and various exhibitions, such as a nest exhibition that shows birds with their nests. On the outside area there is a nature trail that leads along a moor , an orchard meadow and a renatured stream. The Biberburg, a new seminar and exhibition building, was opened in 2002. Based on a holistic approach ( learning with head, heart and hand ), the green classroom offers programs for school classes in cooperation with the Natur- und Erlebnispark Bremervörde GmbH and the Lower Saxony State Forests .
• Association "Lebenshilfe for people with disabilities Bremervörde / Zeven eV": The Lebenshilfe Bremervörde / Zeven eV is committed to the participation and integration of disabled people.

education

• In cooperation with regional actors such as the Regional Environmental Education Center (RUZ) NABU Umweltpyramid , the Natur- und Erlebnispark GmbH and the Lower Saxony State Forests, holistic, age-appropriate educational programs are offered for school trips. In doing so, perceptual and sensory experiences in the “World of the Senses” or the “Cafe Dunkel” are combined with opportunities for active encounters with nature in the NABU environmental pyramid and the House of the Forest.
• The Ostel offers a wide range of open educational events - general educational offers, professional qualification measures for people with and without learning disabilities. In addition, there are educational offers for the specialist staff of institutions for the disabled that are recognized as educational leave. Four seminar rooms with modern media equipment provide the framework for seminars, specialist conferences, training courses and information events.
• Some offers are specially designed for specific target groups, such as fishing with grandpa (a weekend) or outdoor training for trainees or companies
• Training as assistant for operational environmental protection in workshops for employees in the workshops
• Seven employees of the local workshop for people with disabilities regularly manage one of the workstations independently (after training to become an environmental assistant ) within the framework of the programs for school classes or are active in supporting the program manager.
