history

In 1907 the agricultural estate Geeste was established in the area of today's Osterbrock . Under the direction of Heinrich Kuhr , the Emsland settlement cooperative bought this property from Harpener Bergbau AG in 1932 , and many smaller settlement sites for new farmers were created from it. Protestant settlers came to the place, which had been Catholic until then. In 1934 they built the Friedrich von Bodelschwingh Chapel. In the 1930s, Aloys Schockemöhle (1906–1963), the father of Alwin and Paul Schockemöhle, lived on the estate.

The Bramberge oil field , which is located in the village area, has been exploited since 1958 .

The municipality of Osterbrock joined the municipality of Geeste on February 1, 1971.
