Osterland Foehr

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Osterland Föhr (also Osterlandföhr , North Frisian: Uasterlun-Feer , Danish: Østerland-Før ) is a former harde in the east of the island of Föhr .

history

The Harde Osterland Föhr was first mentioned in 1231 in the Waldemar earth book . The Harde included the villages of Nieblum (for the most part), Alkersum , Midlum , Oevenum , Wrixum and Boldixum . Osterland Föhr was part of the Duchy of Schleswig , while Westerland Föhr to the west , which together with Amrum formed the Westerharde , was directly under the Kingdom of Denmark . In 1426, Osterland Föhr was one of the Harden who completed the Siebenhardenbelieben , in which North Frisian law was recorded for the first time . In 1435 the status of the two Föhrer Harden was confirmed in the Peace of Vordingborg . This division did not change until 1864, when Denmark had to cede the area to Austria and Prussia after the German-Danish War and the Harden were dissolved.

In 1706 the harbor town Wyk auf Föhr was founded as a patch in the area of the Harde and thus separated from the Harde.

In 1867 the Osterlandföhr office was set up, which was added to the Föhr-Land office in 1970.

Structure of the harde

The Harde was by a bailiff led, the twelve councilors and a varying number of "Rechensleuten" stood aside. The administration in the villages was carried out by eight men . Despite the different status, the tax system was similar to that on Westerland Föhr. The separation of Wyks from Osterland Föhr is said to be due to the dissatisfaction of the Wyker with the high tax burden.

aftermath

In the area of what was then Osterland Föhr, the proportion of Fering speakers is considerably lower than on Westerland Föhr.
