Osvaldo Licini

Osvaldo Licini (born March 22, 1894 in Monte Vidon Corrado , Italy ; † October 11, 1958 ibid) was an Italian painter . He is one of the most important representatives of Italian modern art in the 20th century.

life and work

Licini studied art at the Academy in Bologna in 1911 , where he met Giorgio Morandi and built a friendship. The two exhibited together several times between 1920 and 1939. Since 1913, he had contact with artists of Futurism and took in at the Futurist exhibition at "Gallery Sprovieri" Rome part. In 1915 as a volunteer in the First World War , he was wounded in 1916, then convalescent stay in Florence , 1917 in Paris , where he made the acquaintance of Amedeo Modigliani , Pablo Picasso and the Parisian avant-garde artists of Café La Rotonde in the Montparnasse district . In 1926 he returned to Monte Vindon Corrado.

In 1931 Osvaldo Licini began to paint abstract . From this point on he exhibited together with some important avant-garde Italian artists of the time, such as Oreste Bogliardi , Virgilio Ghiringhelli , Alberto Magnelli , Mauro Reggiani , Mario Soldati and Lucio Fontana and others in the Galleria del Milione in Milan . He exhibited at the II. Quadriennale Romana in Rome in 1935. In 1958 Osvaldo Licini was a participant in the Venice Biennale and in 1959 he was represented with some works posthumously at documenta 2 in Kassel in the painting department.
