Ottavio Vitale RCJ (born February 5, 1959 in Grottaglie , Province of Taranto , Italy ) is a religious member of the Congregation of Rogationists and has been Bishop of Lezha in Albania since 2006 .

Life

After the re-approval of the religion in Albania in 1990, he was sent as a missionary to the Balkans, where he set up a branch of his order in Lezha and was active in pastoral care. He was ordained priestly on June 27, 1992 by the Archbishop of Taranto , Benigno Luigi Papa OFMCap .

On February 5, 2000, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Lezha . On November 23, 2005 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the bishop of Jezha. He was ordained episcopate on January 6th of the following year by the Archbishop of Shkodra-Pult , Angelo Massafra, OFM . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio to Albania, Archbishop John Bulaitis , and the Archbishop of Durrës-Tirana , Rrok Mirdita .

The last regular predecessor Vitales was from 1946 to 1949 Bishop Francesco Gjini, from 1949 to 1951 Ndre Lufi was then chapter vicar and diocesan administrator. From then on it was no longer possible for Rome to appoint bishops in atheistic Albania.
