The Otto Hahn Gymnasium , named after the atomic physicist Otto Hahn , is the only gymnasium in the city of Monheim am Rhein and has been a European school since May 2012 . It was founded in 1969 and is oriented towards mathematics and science . In May 2011 the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium was awarded the top grade “exemplary” in the quality analysis of the district government of North Rhine-Westphalia in 24 of 25 areas, in 2007 it received the seal of approval “Individual Support” from the North Rhine-Westphalia School Ministry. A large sponsoring association, to which over 90% of the parents belong, supports the Otto Hahn Gymnasium in many projects.
Mission statement
In its school program, the OHG defines its fields of work as “ developing and expanding learning skills ”, “learning languages”, “cultural life and social interaction” and “learning through cooperation”. In these three areas the pupils are to be educated as well as educated for social responsibility and personal development. There is no fixed demarcation between the work areas, rather they merge into one another.

In addition to the lessons, the Otto Hahn Gymnasium cooperates with Bayer HealthCare and Schwarz Pharma and participates in the Comenius program . School partnerships exist with Bourg-la-Reine and Montreuil (France), Tirat Carmel (Israel), Newbury (England), Kiev (Ukraine) and Perugia (Italy). With these, numerous international encounters are organized in the form of exchange programs.
Working groups
The Otto Hahn Gymnasium offers working groups for football, handball, table tennis, tennis, basketball, dance, golf and badminton to promote the sporting activity of the students.
In the linguistic area there are working groups for Spanish, Russian , Chinese and Arabic. There is also the option of taking a language certificate in English ( Cambridge Certificate ), French ( DELF ) and Italian.
In the cultural area there is a theater group, a test stage choir, a big band and a school orchestra. There is also a cooperation with the city music school.
In addition, it is possible to help shape special school facilities in working groups: the library, the dispute settlement and the school homepage. In addition, the Schulgestaltungs-AG works on the external and internal appearance of the school.
In addition to the working groups, there are several additional events accompanying lessons, such as method training, traffic education, violence prevention , addiction prevention , career orientation and counseling and an extensive range of different options for remedial teaching .
Every year a project week takes place at the OHG-Monheim. The students are divided into groups with different topics, work on them and present the results to the other groups at the end of the week.
