Otto Bruckner

Otto Bruckner (born January 24, 1962 in Oberwart ) is an Austrian politician (PdA, formerly SPÖ and KPÖ) and communist trade union activist. From 1991 to 1994 he was the federal spokesman for the Communist Party of Austria . From 2013 to 2019 he was chairman of the Austrian Labor Party .

Life

Bruckner was born in 1962 into a working-class and farming family. His parents belonged to the Croatian ethnic group in Burgenland. He first trained as a carpenter and worked in parallel in the ÖGJ , the SJ and the SPÖ . He made a career and became chairman of the ÖGJ and board member of the SPÖ in southern Burgenland .

Bruckner made contacts in the communist milieu, resigned from the SJ and SPÖ and became a member of the KJÖ and the KPÖ (1980). He was the elected specialist group secretary of the trade union left bloc in the ÖGB (GLB) and worked as the secretary of the KPÖ Lower Austria . From 1985 to 1989 he was chairman of the Communist Youth of Austria KJÖ . From 1985 to 1991 he was a member of the Central Committee of the KPÖ. He was then a member of the federal executive committee and from 1991 to 1994, together with Margitta Kaltenegger and Julius Mende, the party's national spokesman. In 1985 he belonged with Georg Zanger , Alfred Gusenbauer (SJ) and Gabriel Lansky to the committee “For a Democratic Anti-Fascist Austria”, which counteracted Otto Scrinzi 's candidacy for the FPÖ as Federal President .

On January 1, 2005, he left the KPÖ after internal party quarrels. From 2009 to 2011 he was a councilor for the Communist Trade Union Initiative International (KOMintern), which he co-founded . Since it was founded in 2005, he has been chairman of the Austrian Communist Initiative (KI) and has been chairman of the Austrian Labor Party since 2013 .
