Otto Dressler
Otto Dressler (born November 1, 1930 in Braubach ; † July 11, 2006 in Munich ) was a German sculptor and action artist .
Life
Dressler's professional career began as a stonemason and sculptor. During this time he created 43 monuments as a warning against violent killing in war and is considered to be the inventor of the alienation of art motifs from everyday life in order to use these alienations to produce an understandable and critical analysis of time for the viewer. In particular, he dealt with the issues of war, fascism and violence in his activities. Political motivation played an essential role here and he saw his art as a means of provocation . For his exhibitions and art events he often used places where many people frequented, such as train stations, airports or universities. During his life as an artist he participated in more than 230 exhibitions and art events worldwide. Otto Dressler was federal chairman of the Federal Association of Visual Artists from 1983 to 1986 and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class in 1990. Dressler lived and worked in Moosach until his death .
