Otto Edmund Günther
Otto Edmund Günther (born September 30, 1838 in Halle an der Saale , † April 20, 1884 in Weimar ) was a German genre painter and illustrator .
Life
Otto Edmund Günther studied painting from 1858 to 1861 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There were Christian Köhler , Heinrich Mücke , Karl Müller and Rudolf Wiegmann his teachers. From 1863 to 1866 he studied at the Grand Ducal Saxon Art School in Weimar with Arthur von Ramberg , Friedrich Preller the Elder and Ferdinand Pauwels . After graduating, he stayed in Weimar. From 1876 to 1880 he worked as a teacher at the Königsberg Art Academy , after which he returned to Weimar due to illness. Lovis Corinth was one of his students .
Otto Edmund Günther initially created great historical compositions and later devoted himself to genre painting. His pictures show the life of rural Thuringian people.
