Otto Ehrich
Otto Johannes Julius Max Ehrich (born June 6, 1897 in Birnbaum ; † November 26, 1988 in Lindenberg ) was a German aviator, entrepreneur, painter and watercolorist . He was a student of the Brücke painter Karl Schmidt-Rottluff . His son is the Swedish product designer Hans Ehrich .
Life
From 1914 to 1918 Otto Ehrich did military service as a fighter pilot and flight instructor, including as a teacher at the Bulgarian Aviation School (between November 1916 and January 1918).
In 1919 he began a commercial apprenticeship. Numerous international trips abroad gave him a lot of impressions, Ehrich spoke nine languages fluently.
In 1936 he emigrated to Finland . There he worked as an entrepreneur, later as an industrialist and ship owner . He was friends with Willi Daugs and took part in the Ergo shipping company and the Tikkakoski arms manufacturer . In 1938 he married Liten-Karin Sundberg from Sweden. In 1942 his son Hans Ehrich was born. After the threat of the occupation of Finland by the Red Army , he and his family fled to Sweden in 1944 . In 1945 the daughter Franziska was born. The Finnish factories and his mansion were confiscated for the USSR.
From 1948 to 1952 he lived in Ascona , where he received painting lessons from Schmidt-Rottluff. From 1953 to 1956 he lived in Munich and Barcelona and from 1957 in Rome . In 1971 he moved from Rome to Tuscany . From 1981 Ehrich lived in Weiler in the Allgäu . He spent the summers on Österlen in southern Sweden, where he is also buried.

Ehrich painted landscapes and still lifes in watercolor, partly influenced by Schmidt-Rottluf. In terms of art history, it can be assigned to expressive realism and the art of the lost generation . Many of his works are now in private and public collections, including the Bavarian State Gallery . Numerous exhibitions took place at home and abroad.
