Otto Eiser

Otto Heinrich Eiser (born October 29, 1834 in Frankfurt am Main , † April 27, 1898 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German doctor and writer .

Life

Born as the son of a general practitioner , Eiser studied medicine in Marburg and Berlin . During his studies in 1852 he became a member of the old Marburg fraternity Germania . In 1855 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD .

Eiser worked as an assistant doctor in Würzburg before becoming a general practitioner in Frankfurt am Main in 1856. He was considered an art connoisseur and valued literature and visual arts , which he promoted until the end of his life. Eiser was the personal physician of Richard Wagner . In 1877 he founded a Wagner society in Frankfurt. He promoted the painter Hans Thoma , whose family doctor he was, and for whom he arranged portraits. Eiser maintained numerous correspondence , including with Fritz Reuter , Friedrich Nietzsche and Otto Julius Bierbaum . He retired in 1897 and died the following year.

His wife was Sophie Eiser.
