Otto Ernst Leopold Imperial Count of Limburg-Stirum (born January 10, 1684 in Borken , Castle Gemen , † March 4, 1754 in Buda ) was a German general in the Imperial Army .

origin

He came from the old count family Limburg-Stirum and was born as the son of General Field Marshal Hermann Otto II of Limburg-Styrum (1646–1704), as well as his wife Charlotte Amalie Countess of Vehlen and Mengen (1662–1727), granddaughter of the Imperial Field Marshal of the Catholic League , Alexander II of Velen . His father suffered fatal wounds on July 2, 1704, in the battle of Donauwörth .

Life

Otto Ernst Leopold von Limburg-Stirum was a chamberlain at the imperial court in Vienna , became master of Gemen by succession and also embarked on a military career in the imperial army.

In 1704, in the War of the Spanish Succession , he fought as a cornet (equestrian officer) at the siege of Turin . 1712 Graf became the imperial chamberlain , from 1716 to 1732 he served as a lieutenant colonel in the Montecuccoli - cuirassiers (. From 1737–1739 Otto Ernst Leopold von Limburg-Stirum took part in the 7th Austrian Turkish War, became general of the cavalry in 1739 and fought with great bravery in the unfortunate battle of Grocka . In the same year he took over the position of a fortress commander of Buda. As such he died there in 1754.

Otto Ernst Leopold von Limburg-Stirum married Amalia Anna Elisabeth von Schönborn in Mainz in 1706 , the sister of the later Cardinal Prince-Bishop Damian Hugo Philipp von Schönborn-Buchheim (1676–1743). He had several children with her.

The eldest son, Friedrich Karl (1710–1771), succeeded his father in the government of the rulers. The younger one, Damian August Philipp , chose the clergy and served as Prince-Bishop of Speyer from 1770 to 1797 .
