Otto von Hingenau

Otto Gottlieb Freiherr von Hingenau (born December 19, 1818 in Trieste , † May 22, 1872 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mining specialist, mining lawyer and writer.

Otto von Hingenau was the son of Ferdinand Gottlieb Freiherr von Hingenau (1791-1824), who was district chief in Vienna and a delegate in the province of Padua. His mother Franzisca de Paula Countess von Sprinzenstein died in 1831.

Hingenau studied law at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1840. From 1840 to 1843 he studied mining science at the Bergakademie Schemnitz . From 1844 to 1850 he was employed in the mining civil service. Here he last held the position of mining captain for Moravia and Silesia. From 1850 until his death, Hingenau was Professor of Mining Law at the University of Vienna. Otto von Hingenau was a member of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors .
