Otto Fricke (born May 29, 1894 in Wennigsen (Deister) ; † November 26, 1966 in Heidelberg ) was a German naval officer , most recently rear admiral in World War II .

Military career

Imperial Navy

On April 1, 1913, Otto Fricke ( Crew 1913 ) joined the Imperial Navy as a midshipman . By March 31, 1914 he completed his basic training, u. a. also on the protected cruiser SMS Hansa . After a time at the Naval School Mürwik , he first came to the small cruiser SMS Stuttgart on August 1, 1914 , and then to the small cruiser SMS Graudenz on January 31, 1915 . From November 23, 1915 to May 22, 1917 he served on the large liner SMS Helgoland . On May 27, 1917 Otto Fricke switched to mine hunters . In the IV minesweeping flotilla he was in command of M 38 until September 15, 1919 .

Since September 16, 1919 he was part of the Reichsmarine for a short time with the 5th minesweeping flotilla, before he became an officer on watch on October 21, 1919 on the small cruiser Königsberg . From June 1, 1920 to October 25, 1920 he was commanded as platoon leader for the Wilhelmshaven Coast Guard Regiment . From September 26, 1927 to October 2, 1929 Fricke was a company commander in the III. Marine Artillery Department. Two more on-board commands followed, first from October 3, 1929 to September 25, 1932 on the ship of the line Hessen (first as officer on watch, from September 25, 1930 as second artillery officer), then as an artillery officer until September 26, 1934 on the small cruiser Königsberg . During the Sudeten crisis , Fricke was also the commander of the 11th Marine Artillery Regiment on the Siegfried Line .

After the occupation of Norway in April 1940, Fricke, since October 1, 1938, became captain of the sea , and on May 1, 1940, he was in command of the Stavanger naval defense . On July 19, 1940, however, he moved again as Chief of Staff to the Naval Commander in Chief of the Channel Coast. On April 18, 1942, Fricke rose to become Chief of Staff at the commanding Admiral France (Admiral Otto Schultze / Admiral Wilhelm Marschall ). Here he was promoted to rear admiral on September 1, 1942 . When, in November 1942, the office of the commanding admiral France was integrated into the area of ​​the Marinegruppenkommando West, Fricke took over the position of chief quartermaster there from November 16 . From April 1, 1943 to July 22, 1945 Rear Admiral Fricke was still an inspector for the inspection of the naval artillery.

His captivity lasted from July 22, 1945 to April 19, 1947. Rear Admiral Otto Fricke died on November 26, 1966 in Heidelberg.
