Otto Gampert
Otto Gampert (born October 27, 1842 in Ottenbach ZH ; † March 8, 1924 in Zurich ) was a Swiss doctor , landscape painter and etcher .
Life
Born as the second son of the doctor Friedrich Gampert, Otto Gampert studied medicine at the University of Zurich . After graduating in 1867, he visited Vienna and Paris . In 1869 he married Pauline Wegmann. On the honeymoon he visited u. a. Munich . He took over his father's practice in Ottenbach. In his spare time he was engaged in photography and painting.
After the death of his two daughters in 1877 he became mentally incapable of working and abandoned his medical practice. In 1883 he moved to Munich with his wife and three children. Since then he has considered painting as his profession. He became a student of Adolf Stäbli and Otto Frölicher . Since 1888 he has shown his works in the Munich Glass Palace . Around 1890 he began to work with etching . His art was influenced by impressionism .
In 1919 he left Munich and returned to Switzerland. He spent the last years of his life in Zurich.
