Otto Gittinger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto Gittinger (born March 31, 1861 in Lauffen am Neckar , † February 21, 1939 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ) was a Protestant pastor and Swabian dialect poet.

Life

After studying theology in Tübingen, Gittinger held vicar positions in Fellbach and Giengen before he became parish administrator in Mitteltal (Baiersbronn) in 1885 . His dialect poetry led to misunderstandings, which Gittinger evaded by being transferred to Hohenstaufen . From 1905 until his retirement in 1926 he worked in Schwäbisch Gmünd (from 1918 as the first parish priest).

Literary work

In the dialect of the upper Murg Valley , Gittinger published three humorous volumes of poetry:

  • So semmer people
  • Schwobaleut
  • From the ond sellam

From the translation of the New Testament into Swabian only an excerpt from the 1st letter of Peter was printed. Text sample: “How the Jesus is the Haufa people g'seha, he is there mountain nuf g'stiega. Owa on the slope he is na g'sessa on his Jenger om an rom. No hot he a'fanga predicha on hot g'sait: Selich senn dia, where iar enwendiche Armuat drives to God, dia kriaga amol the Hemmel en's heart. "

In Baiersbronn the Otto-Gittinger-Weg reminds of him, in Lauffen the Gittingerweg.
