Otto Kasper (2019)

Otto Kasper (born October 27, 1954 in Singen (Hohentwiel) ) is a German photographer , advertising designer , inventor, acoustician, author and publisher . He became internationally known for his recordings for advertising campaigns as well as book and calendar publications. Kasper lives and works on Lake Constance.

Life

Otto Kasper discovered photography at the age of fourteen, supported by a teacher. He sold his model railroad and set up a photo laboratory in the nursery. In 1972 he started in Freiburg / Br. training as an advertising photographer. In 1977 Otto Kasper started his own business there as a photographer. A year later he moved to Lake Constance and opened his first own studio. He turned his back on advertising and devoted himself to art photography . During this time he met regularly with his teacher, the Folkwang and Otto Steiner student Toni Schneider in Lindau. In the first years up to 1981 eight illustrated books were created. As a photo designer, Kasper now created his own avant-garde photo style, inspired by the New York still life scene around Phil Marco. In 1982 Kasper was appointed to the BFF professional association of free photographers and film designers. The first Kasper calendars for spaghetti, household items and cameras were created. For this he received the Kodak calendar award several times in a row , the award of the graphic club Stuttgart, the award at ADC Tokyo and a nomination at ADC New York. In 1987 the company moved to Europe's largest daylight studio , which he built in Rielasingen , near Lake Constance . This is where his "productions" were created.

Kasper became internationally known in 1988 for his photo performance with the original of the 10 meter high “Red Chair”, which was accompanied by 80 magazines such as Stern, Life, New Look and Illustré worldwide. In Paris he got to know Gökşin Sipahioğlu , the founder of sipa Press , the largest photo agency in France, who took over Kasper's worldwide representation. The red chair has been copied a thousand times to this day. From 1989 Kasper developed his own style for visual appearances in advertising campaigns as a photo artist and art director in one person. He worked for Siemens, Bosch, Heine-Versand, Audi, Kodak, Alno, USM and Sedus. He has been working for Riedel -Glas since 1993 , whose visual appearance he designed. His most famous basic visual motif in Germany is the island on the Wiehltalsperre for the Krombacher advertisement, which was created in 1998. From 1996 Kasper developed the idea of the living worlds for Heine Versand , which belongs to the Otto Group. These elaborate stagings of Mediterranean living spaces in ethnic style were produced by himself on the Côte d'Azur and Mallorca until 2012. Kasper has been one of the pioneers of digital photography in Europe since 1994, when he was commissioned by Eastman Kodak from Rochester (USA) to take photographs with the first one-shot cameras , which astonished the professional world at the Photokina in Cologne that same year . His public announcement that the film would become obsolete at the turn of the millennium and that industrial customers could produce their pictures themselves earned him ridicule and malice among colleagues. In 1998, this led to Kasper taking care of his new idea of vehicle advertising. He covered the entire sides of trucks with giant posters showing funny motifs. In the same year and the following, he won the gold medal in the Poster Grand Prix of the German Outdoor Advertising Association for his pioneering photographic work on trucks covered with digital prints . From 1999 he designed the new look of Deutsche Post for the fleet of over 75,000 vehicles. For the advertising campaign for the IPO in 2000, Kasper's yellow vehicles were redesigned and used as the central advertising medium.

In 2002, Deutsche Post took over the global parcel service provider DHL . Kasper was entrusted with the relaunch of all vehicles, aircraft, buildings and clothing in 220 countries. During these years, campaigns for outdoor advertising for Postbank, OBI, Bundeswehr and Grüner Punkt were developed and supported by Otto Kasper and his team. In 2008 Kasper decided to return to Lake Constance and set up a new company with his children. A company for creative advertising technology developed from the existing departments of digital and fabric printing as well as scenery construction.
