Otto Karl Franz Xaver Mächtlinger (born April 24, 1921 in Reichenberg , Czechoslovakia , † December 29, 1985 in Zurich , Switzerland ) was a German actor.

Life

His parents were German and his mother died very early, which gave him a close bond with his sister Susanne. In 1937 Otto Mächtlinger entered the seaman's school in Hamburg-Finkenwerder and was drafted into the navy after the outbreak of World War II . As a result of his war impressions , Mächtlinger became a committed opponent of the war after the end of the war and later became a communist . After the war, he made a living as a casual worker and took singing lessons. He never received training as an actor.

He later married Edith Müller, with whom he had two children. The marriage ended in divorce. A second marriage to Antoinette Siegrist followed. After his return to Switzerland in 1978, Mächtlinger worked as a freelancer and lived in Dottikon . Otto Mächtlinger died of cancer on December 29, 1985, after having performed as Daedalus in the Theater am Neumarkt the previous evening.

Mächtlinger had appearances and readings at the Swiss Peace Movement, the Socialist Unity Party West Berlin and the Labor Party in Zurich.
