Otto Mintus (born August 8, 1933 in Kraków , Roßlau district ; † August 14, 2017 ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life

Otto Mintus was born the son of a farmer. After attending school, he completed an agricultural apprenticeship and then worked in his parents' business. In 1951 he joined the DBD, for which he worked full-time in the following years. From 1961 to 1963 he was deputy chairman of the Havelberg district council for agriculture. In 1965, as a state-certified farmer and graduate agricultural engineer, he became chairman of an LPG .

After the merger of the DBD with the CDU, Mintus was a member there. After German reunification , on November 2, 1990, he was appointed Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests in the government of Saxony-Anhalt led by Prime Minister Gerd Gies . He was also a member of the subsequent government headed by Prime Minister Werner Münch . After his part-time contacts with the GDR State Security became known to the Gauck authorities , he resigned from his ministerial office on August 13, 1991. On September 12, 1991, he finally resigned from the government.
