Otto Osmarr (stage name), real name Oskar Otto , (born June 15, 1858 in Stettin ; † March 20, 1940 ) in Hamburg was a German theater actor , director and director . His stage name Osmarr is made up of the first letter "Os" of his first name Oskar and the last name of his foster father Heinrich Marr .

Life

After graduating from high school and briefly preparing to become a master builder, the son of a lawyer and in-house officer decided to pursue a stage career. In 1875 he joined the Association of the Court Theater in Braunschweig as a trainee in order to continue his artistic studies under Anton Hiltl's leadership, which he had begun with his foster parents Elisabeth Marr and acting teacher Heinrich Marr.

From Braunschweig he came to work in Leipzig , Augsburg , Graz , Mainz , Pest and Coburg . From 1892 he worked at the court theater in Meiningen as an actor, theater director and artistic director. Osmarr was a successful Ibsen reciter. In leading roles he played, among others, Franz Moor ( The Robbers ), Hamlet , Richard III. , Builders Solness , John Gabriel Borkman and Crampton . From 1906 to 1909 and from 1913 to 1919 he was artistic director in Meiningen.

He was married to Lili Klug .
