Heinrich Marr

Heinrich Marr (born August 30, 1797 in Hamburg , † September 16, 1871 ibid) was a German theater actor and director.

Life

Marr fought against France in the wars of liberation , returned to the stage and made his debut at the Hamburg City Theater in 1815 .

After various engagements in Lübeck , Kassel , since 1820 in Hanover , since 1827 at the Hoftheater in Braunschweig , in 1837 he went to the Vienna Burgtheater , to which he belonged until 1847, then worked for a short time as chief director at the Leipzig City Theater . From 1848 on, Marr worked at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg and in 1852 followed a call to Weimar as artistic director of the court theater . As a result of a falling out with the court, he returned to the Thaliatheater in Hamburg in 1857 and died there in 1871. Marr was an extraordinary member of the Hamburg Artists' Association from 1832 .

In his dual role as actor and director, Marr belonged to the old school in the art of acting and sought in his portrayal of nature transfigured by art instead of nature unadorned as it was later in naturalism .

He celebrated his greatest triumphs in bourgeois drama . As a writer he worked through essays and adaptations of dramas, for example Bajazzo and his family .

Marr was married to the actress and writer Elisabeth Sangalli (1828–1901), his son Wilhelm was a businessman and anti-Semitic politician.

At the Hamburg cemetery in Ohlsdorf , in the area of ​​the ″ Althamburg Memorial Cemetery ″, the collective grave of the Thalia Theater, among others, “Martin Heinrich Gabriel Marr” is remembered.
