Otto Wicki

Otto Wicki (born February 5, 1932 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss doctor and writer .

Life

Otto Wicki attended primary school in Klusen near Schüpfheim in the canton of Lucerne in 1939 and graduated from the Obwalden canton school in Sarnen in 1952 . He studied medicine at the University of Bern and the University of Hamburg and graduated in 1958 with a doctorate in Bern. Further medical training took place at several clinics in Switzerland in anesthesia and surgery . In 1965 he became a specialist in surgery at the Foederatio Medicorum Helveticorum (FMH). He obtained his diploma in hand surgery from Jörg Böhler in Linz . From 1969 he completed further training at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) in visceral surgery (with Ake Senning ) and traumatology (with HU Buff). For a year he was head of the emergency room at the USZ.

In 1965 Otto Wicki was commissioned by the government council of the Canton of Lucerne to help build an acute hospital with around 200 beds in Wolhusen . From 1972 - the opening year - until 1990 he worked there as chief surgeon. During this time he published over 80 scientific papers. In addition, and increasingly after his retirement, he has written numerous local historical and literary works.

In 1968 Otto Wicki became a member of the Swiss Air Rescue Association (Rega), 1979 board member. Until 2008 he was President of the Rega Medical Commission.

Otto Wicki lives in Iragna in the canton of Ticino .

In 1970 Otto Wicki founded the book series of medical checklists at Georg Thieme Verlag , which appeared as flexible Thieme paperbacks. Wicki was initially an author and later co-editor of this series. He is co-author of:
