Jörg Böhler

Jörg Böhler (born December 15, 1917 in Gries near Bozen (South Tyrol) ; † December 11, 2005 in Vienna ) was the first Austrian specialist in trauma surgery . He was the son of the Austrian surgeon Lorenz Böhler (1885–1973).

Böhler took part in two expeditions of the marine researcher Hans Hass (1939/40 to the Caribbean and 1942 to Greece) and played a role in the films made there. In 1942 he became a doctor in the Air Force . In early 1943 he survived a plane crash, but was injured so badly that he was discharged from the Wehrmacht .

From 1951 Jörg Böhler was the medical director of the AUVA accident hospital in Linz . In 1971 he moved to Vienna. From 1972 to 1983 he was head of the Lorenz Böhler Accident Hospital in Vienna.

Among other things, Böhler gave its name to the radius- joint angle on the wrist , which is an important diagnostic criterion for the very frequent forearm fractures close to the wrist .
